Education

Fall 2019-Spring 2021

Harvard Divinity School, Cambridge, MA | Masters in Theological Studies

Emphasis in Philosophy and Literature. Because of the openness of the program, I was able to take half my courses in other departments at the University, including the Philosophy, Creative Writing, Education, and English departments. This allowed me to continue to study each of my interests in the Humanities and form connections between seemingly distinct areas of study. My background is in Christian theology and I have studied in detail both John Dewey and William James and American Pragmatism.

Fall 2015-Spring 2019

University of Northern Iowa | BA in English; Humanities; Study of Religion

Minor in Creative Writing. University Honors Program. My undergrad years were a time of great academic exploration, where I discovered my passion for not only English, but also Philosophy and Theology. With the support of my professors, each year I strengthened my skills in critical thinking, writing, reading, and meaning-making.

Spring 2019

Honor's Thesis (UNI): “‘Wandersoul’ of the South: Situating 20th Century Alabama Poet Clement Wood in a Literary Tradition”

Available through Scholarworks here.

After discovering Clement Wood through his 'Complete Rhyming Dictionary' my mom gave me, I was hooked on figuring out why and how this prolific, influential writer, had slipped through the cracks of literary history. I made it my life-long goal to bring Wood more recognition.

Transition Assistant |
Johnston Community School District, Ellipsis

  • In an effort to connect with my local community and live out my life values, I joined the Johnston team at the Ellipsis program building, where I entered into a newly created position in order to revamp and restore old organization and administration practices.

  • I work with teachers and staff to get the 'behind-the-scenes' system of enrolling and supporting students and staff in the Ellipsis program. This includes common administrative duties, such as purchasing and managing timeclock, as well as tailoring school systems to the unique students that Ellipsis serves.

  • Here I am building skill in Infinite Campus, enrollment, district purchasing, employee management. I also get to exercise my creativity by taking old processes and making them work better for the school.

Fall 2021-Summer 2023

Office Coordinator | St Paul Presbyterian Church

  • After finishing my degree at Harvard Divinity School, I went to work at this local Presbyterian Church to put into practice what I’d learned during my years of study. Here I became directly involved in religious life behind the scenes--designing and publishing weekly church newsletters on MailChimp, bulletins with Word, and worship service materials. I was responsible for keeping church website on Weebly up to date; I managed rentals for the church gymnasium through Google Calendar; I designed the monthly church newsletters with Canva, along with promotional graphics and posters for church events; I facilitated monthly committee reports, and managed the office phone, email, and welcomed visitors.

  • During the Pastor, my boss' sabbatical in 2022, I took on more leadership duties as the only regular staff member during his absence. u Under my own supervision, I took on several of the pastor's liturgical duties, including creating the service liturgy each Sunday and handling member prayer requests.

  • In my goal to make a lasting impact for the church's continued success, I  redesigned the monthly newsletter and transitioned it from Word to Canva; I optimized church website for SEO; and I created and organized a new church database directory online. I was also the event coordinator for three major yearly community church events.

Skills & Expertise

I am an organized, conscientious, detail-oriented, industrious, independent meaning-maker.

I have built excellence in academic and creative writing, critical thinking, reading, learning.

I am skilled in editing, proofreading, and professional correspondence.

I possess creativity in digital media design and video editing, especially Canva and Google Suite.

I am empathetic and understanding of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences.

I have a strong foundation in creative, analytic, technical, personal, and relational skills.

Writing Philosophy

  • I write nature-themed poetry and fiction, with an emphasis on philosophical introspection and development of particular characters, oftentimes old men.

  • I believe that participation in the natural world and time spent in solitude in nature aids in the cultivation of meaning in our lives.

  • At my work’s center is the interconnection between the themes of 'religious, philosophical, and moral questioning,' and 'man’s search for meaning' in an individual’s life, which are integral to the continued development of human meaning in relation to the natural world.

  • My stories and poems show why we need philosophical reflection, how it can be done, the effects of doing it, and the role nature plays in the reflective process. This is the way I continue the call of poet Clement Wood to “speak the word waiting in the hearts of others for utterance.”
  • My creative works are philosophical exercises on their most basic levels. They serve to make this type of inquiry more accessible to all walks of life.

  • Why do I write? to give people pause.
